Our collaborators in biobanking

Some of the most important Finnish biobanking resources are located on the Meilahti campus. The long tradition of extensive biobanking, know-how of the National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), diagnostic patient samples and data from the largest hospital in Finland, Hospital District of Helsinki and Uusimaa (HUS), world-class medical science of the University of Helsinki, combined with the systems biology and bioinformatics expertise of FIMM, make the Meilahti campus a central hub for biobanking in Finland.

Thus, developing the biobanking operations at the Meilahti campus is a joint effort of all the above-mentioned organizations, led by a steering group where all of the organizations are represented. This steering group is chaired by the vice-rector of the University, Kimmo Kontula.
