FIMM International Group Leader Search

We received 32 applications for the new FIMM international group leader positions. As indicated in the original announcement, these positions are meant for group leaders starting a new research group in Finland. There were many excellent candidates, but we had to restrict the search to those with compataibility with the planned mission of FIMM and to those estimated to have the potential to become future leaders in their field.

We initially selected four candidates for review by an international, EMBL-style Search Committee, which was composed of Professor Iain Mattaj (Director General of the EMBL) as well as Professors Bernt-Eric Uhlin, Ole Petter Ottersen and Kjetil Tasken, representing the other nodes of Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine in Umeå and Oslo. The Search Committee met with the candidates on June 5, 2008, and provided recommendations to the Board to recruit 1-2 of the candidates as group leaders at FIMM. We will now be undertaking recruitment negotiations and upon completion of these, will announce the final selections. All applicants will receive a personal email within the next week to inform them about their status.

The next group leader search for international candidates will be launched in the fall of 2008
