Human Genomics
focus on on neuro-psychiatric and cardiovascular disorders. The research materials such as the Finnish Twin cohorts, collected by the Unversity of Helsinki Department of Public Health in collaboration with THL, enable to elucidate the gene variants and environmental factors causing the disease.

Medical Systems Biology
focus on cancer, inflammation, obesity and diabetes. Research in this area develops high throughput screening technologies and bioinformatics tools for system-level data analysis. These tools enable to combine data produced by the screening with similar system-level information from other resources to discover disease mechanisms.

Translational Research
Bringing together the research resources from three different ministries, FIMM is in an ideal position to build a bridge between preclinical and clinical studies as well as between basic and applied sciences as well as industrial research and development. The bridge building is facilitated also by strong technological capabilities and the access to large patient samples, clinical and epidemiological data resources collected by the THL, HUS, HUSLAB and other institutions.
