Professor Olli Kallioniemi gave his Inauguration Lecture “Personalised Medicine 2020” in January to celebrate his nomination for a second term as the Director of FIMM.¬† A full audience at the Biomedicum Helsinki Lecture Hall 1 listened attentively.

 

The Inauguration Lecture of FiDiPro Professor Leif Groop: "Genetics of type 2 diabetes - any light in the tunnel?" was organised in April. The Chancellor, Professor Ilkka Niiniluoto handed out the Letter of Appointment to Professor Groop.

 

In June, FIMM researchers gathered to enjoy beautiful nature, enthusiastic atmosphere and interesting science talks in Korpilampi. The fourth Annual Retreat was a great success.

 

The first recipient of the Leena Peltonen (Palotie) Prize for Excellence in Human Genetics was announced in Helsinki on August 26, 2013. The prize was established to recognize scientists who are in the early phases of their independent careers. In 2013, this inaugural prize was awarded to Dr. Cecilia Lindgren for her outstanding achievements on applying genetics and genomics to dissect the etiology of type 2 diabetes, obesity and fat distribution.
