2015: The first full year of FIMMPOD events

The year 2015 saw the first full year of events for FIMMPOD, FIMM’s Postdoctoral and Senior Researcher Professional Development Programme coordinated by Senior Researchers Milla Kibble and Gretchen Repasky. The goals of FIMMPOD are to:

In line with these goals, the programme focuses on four main themes - recruitment, mentoring, career development and networking. During 2015, FIMMPOD activities included two institute level calls for new postdocs, monthly Brown Bag Career Lunch Discussions with leaders in various fields such as biotech, funding, pharmaceutical industry, academia, and others, as well as training workshops in scientific writing, project management and organisational behaviour.  

Organisational Behaviour in Collaborative Projects -course with Sergey Nesterov, MD, PhD, certified Project Management Professional and Adjunct Professor, University of Turku.

New to 2015 was a Coffee Talk with Docents event aimed at informing the community about the docentship application process, a Writing Days at Tvärminne event for peer-supported writing projects and a Mindfulness course. A large group of FIMMPOD members also visited GE Healthcare headquarters in Helsinki to find out about their Health Tech Start-up Campus. Social events included several community discussions on themes, including the work-life balance, senior researcher career progression and experiences of being mentored.
