FIMM "Think Different" Seminar by Kai Kaila | Biomedicum Helsinki LH3
Thursday, January 10, 2019 - 14:00 to 15:00
The "Think Different" seminar series is organized by doctoral students at FIMM. For the series, we invite researchers working on exciting new ideas once a month to give a talk and hopefully encourage the audience to think different.
Academy Professor Kai Kaila, Molecular and Integrative Biosciences Research Programme, University of Helsinki
What’s wrong with the diseased brain?
About the speaker:
Kai Kaila is a professor in physiology and neuroscience at the Department of Biosciences, Laboratory of Neurobiology, University of Helsinki, recipient of the ERC Advanced Grant. Since its establishment in 1986, the Laboratory of Neurobiology has done research on fundamental mechanisms which control neuronal functions in health and disease. The research strategy is based on an integrative approach, where physiological and pathophysiological mechanisms are investigated from the molecular and cellular level to the whole organism. The aim is to bring a strong evolutionary perspective in the study of CNS disorders. Indeed, according to Rudolph Virchow’s famous statement, disease is “only a manifestation of life under modified conditions, operating according to the same laws that apply to the living body at all times”.
