To use Technology Centre services you need a valid user account. The user accounts are free of charge to researchers in molecular medicine and related fields. The easy way to get an account is via UserPortal. You will have to provide your name, email address and your group leader's email: all accounts in FIMM have to be validated by group leader and they will belong to at least one "research group", usually named after the group leader. If your group does not have a "research group" established in our system, please select "I need a new group" option.
All user accounts come with a several gigabytes of disk space, for personal and group usage. All user accounts also have access to FIMM analysis cluster, and all of the software installed in the cluster. If you prefere to use your own version of applications, you can install without restrictions to your home folder. Bear in mind, though, that you should not run any applications on the interactive session, but always use the cluster. Resource hogging processes on the login node can and will be killed without preceeding notice. You can always contact email@example.com if in need of help, instructions, advice or clarification.
There is a quota for users and groups in most of our file systems, but for temporary use, we do have file systems without any quota settings, but also lacking backup or redundancy. They exists solely for fast analysis of huge datasets. Most of our file systems are secured against data loss and corruption, though.
On request, we can provide users with their own database (MySQL/MariaDB, PostgreSQL, MS SQL) on our database servers. We also mirror some of the public databases locally for quicker access and less network load.
