Dr. Velagapudi's main research line is to identify and understand the molecular mechanisms of human complex metabolic diseases at systems level, and translate the acquired knowledge to provide personalized health care. Vidya Velagapudi obtained her Bachelors in Biosciences (1999), Masters in Biotechnology (2001), Advanced Post Graduate Diploma in Bioinformatics (2002), and then joined a Pharmaceutical company as a Research Associate (2002) in India. Later on she moved to Germany for her graduate studies and obtained Ph.D in Applied Biochemistry from the University of Saarland in collaboration with the Max-Planck Institute for Informatics, Saarbrucken in 2005. Dr. Velagapudi then moved to VTT Technical Research Centre Ltd, Finland as a post-doctoral fellow in Clinical Metabolomics and Systems Biology, and then continued as a Research Scientist and Project Manager during 2006-2009. In 2010, Dr. Velagapudi has taken up the role as Head of the Metabolomics Unit at Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM). From 2012 onwards Dr. Velagapudi is also affiliated to University of Helsinki as an Adjunct Professor.
